Hearing and Doing

This will guide you through the process of reflecting and meditating on the provided verses from the NIV translation. Each time you read through the verses there will be a different focus to think about as you read.

Read the verses and write down the images or thoughts it conjures

Genesis 4:7
7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”

James 1:22-25
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

This time as you read through the verses: write down the phrases and words that stick out to you.

As you read: write down the areas of your life where you can feel sin beginning to crouch at your door.

take a few moments and pray/journal about where God could be asking you to be a doer in your life rather than a hearer.
